It takes a village to raise a child. Unfortunately, such villages are few and far between, leaving many mothers to bear the burden of not only raising their children but also working to provide for them. But thanks to Jen Hamilton and other moms, there is hope.
After reading a post in a Facebook group where an exhausted mom was looking for affordable cleaning services, Jen was empowered to take action. What started as a rescue mission to help a mom get organized turned into a non-profit with chapters in states across the county. Hot Mess Express is a women-led organization that pulls “fellow women out of a funk” by “serving the women in our community with no judgment through cleaning, organizing, and offering a fresh start.”
While the members and volunteers come together to wash dishes, mop floors, and fold clothes, the real goal is to build community. Many moms today struggle with the impossible task of balancing work, relationships, motherhood, and more. They find themselves in a hole with seemingly no energy or the wherewithal to pull themselves out. That is what prompted the founder. In an interview with Good Morning America, Jen explained: “I had been in situations as a new mom where I wished that there was somebody to rescue me,” she said. “And so to be that for someone else is just so incredible.”
As the Hot Mess Express continues to grow and inspire, these women remind us all that while it may take a village to raise a child, it also takes a community to uplift and empower moms.
